Local fishermen are known for practicing a distinctive rowing style which involves standing at the stern on one leg and wrapping the other leg around the oar. This unique style evolved for the reason that the lake is covered by reeds and floating plants making it difficult to see above them while sitting. Nyaung shwe is the main tourist hub for lake Inle in the Shan state of Burma. Everyday an outdoor market takes place for locals to buy fish, fruit, vegetables, cosmetics (tanaka), rice and so on. No visit to Burma should be considered complete without a visit to the gold-clad Shwedagon Pagoda. I made my visit on a very rainy day, which was hard on my equipment, but made for some beautifull reflections and stormy skies.
