Santa Rosa Symphony announces lineup for 2020-2021 season

There are seven Classical Series Concert programs and a new Opera In Concert program planned for the Santa Rosa Symphony’s 2020-2021 season. All are conducted by Music Director Francesco Lecce-Chong except for the February concert set, which will be led by guest conductor Aram Demirjian.

Oct. 3, 4, 5: Pianist Alexander Toradze returns to perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2; Mieczyslaw Weinberg’s Rhapsody on Moldavian Theme; and Berlioz’ “Symphonie fantastique.”

Nov. 7, 8, 9: Finnish violinist Elina Vähälä performs Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D major; composer Gabriella Smith’s “Tumblebird Contrails”; Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathetique”

Taika Waititi will tackle ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ animated series for Netflix

The first series from the Oscar winner will center around the characters in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The second, titled “Oompa-Loompas,” will focus on the characters of the same name who work in the chocolate factory, Netflix announced in a news release Thursday.

Dahl’s book was first adapted for the screen in 1971, with Gene Wilder starring as chocolate factory owner, Willy Wonka. Director Tim Burton remade the movie in 2005 with Johnny Depp in the lead role.

Publisher cancels plans to release Woody Allen memoir

NEW YORK — Woody Allen’s publisher has decided to cancel the planned release of his memoir “Apropos of Nothing.”

The announcement Friday by Hachette Book Group followed days of criticism focused on allegations that Allen sexually abused his daughter Dylan Farrow. On Thursday, dozens of Hachette employees staged a walkout.

“The decision to cancel Mr. Allen’s book was a difficult one. At HBG we take our relationships with authors very seriously, and do not cancel books lightly,” the publisher announced.
