Although B.C. didn’t hit any new highs with its new case counts over the weekend, new case counts remained above 400 each day and active cases across the province continue to grow in number.
In particular, Interior Health, which has become the epicentre for the pandemic in the province, is approaching 3,000 active cases. That’s far above the two main health regions in the Lower Mainland—where the most cases have been based during the majority of the pandemic—which each remain below 1,000 active cases.
There were also 45 flights listed with potential exposures from confirmed cases.
Over the past three time periods, the B.C. Health Ministry reported that there has been a total of 1,434 new COVID-19 cases (including four epi-linked cases), which includes:
- August 13 to 14: 532 new cases;
- August 14 to 15: 441 new cases;
- August 15 to 16: 461 new cases.
Currently, there are 5,090 active COVID-19 cases, which is an increase of 813 cases since August 13.
The new and active cases include:
- 734 new cases in Interior Health, with 2,982 total active cases (536 more cases than August 13);
- 316 new cases in Fraser Health, with 882 total active cases (61 more cases);
- 198 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health, with 715 total active cases (122 more cases);
- 112 new cases in Island Health, with 307 total active cases (62 more cases);
- 74 new cases in Northern Health, with 197 total active cases (34 more cases);
- no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada, with seven total active cases (two fewer cases than August 13).
As of today, 104 individuals are in hospital—an increase of 22 people since August 13—and 47 of those patients are in intensive care units (eight more than August 13).
Over the weekend, there was one new death (in Fraser Health) reported. The overall total fatalities during the pandemic is now at 1,780 people who have died of COVID-19-related reasons.
With 589 recoveries since August 13, a cumulative total of 149,553 people who tested positive have now recovered.
During the pandemic, B.C. has reported a cumulative total of 156,513 cases.
Since December 2020, the Province has administered 7,230,961 doses of Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine
As of today, 82.6 percent (3,830,337) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 73.2 percent (3,393,049) received their second dose.
In addition, 83.5 percent (3,609,557) of all eligible adults in B.C. have received their first dose and 74.6 percent (3,227,388) received their second dose.
Fraser Health declared the outbreak over at Holyrood Manor in Maple Ridge.
There are 10 active outbreaks in healthcare facilities.
Seven of them are in longterm care:
- Fraser Health: Kin Village West Court, Evergreen Baptist Care Society;
- Interior Health: Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre;
- Island Health: Discovery Harbour.
The remaining three healthcare outbreaks are in assisted- or independent-living facilities: Village at Mill Creek (Interior Health); Hawthorn Park and David Lloyd (Interior Health)
The good news is that no new healthcare or community outbreaks have been declared and no new public exposures or business closures have been listed.
The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has added the following nine international flights to its lists of public exposures:
- August 6: American Airlines 1415, Dallas to Vancouver;
- August 7: Air Canada 861, London to Vancouver;
- August 7: Air Canada/Lufthansa 9433/476, Munich to Vancouver;
- August 8: Air Canada 4, Tokyo to Vancouver;
- August 8: Turkish Airlines 75, Istanbul to Vancouver;
- August 8: EVA Airways 10, Taiwan to Vancouver;
- August 9: American Airlines 1415, Dallas to Vancouver;
- August 10: KLM 681, Amsterdam to Vancouver;
- August 10: Japan Airlines 10, Tokyo to Vancouver.
Also, the BCCDC added more than 36 arriving and departing domestic flights from August 8 to 11 to its lists. For full details as well as affected row information, see the BCCDC website.
McDonald’s listed three locations that have had staff who tested positive:
- two employees at the 301 Trans-Canada Highway location in Golden (last dates worked were August 8 and 9);
- one employee, who last worked on August 11, at the 26454 56th Avenue location in Aldergrove.
