Local AKA Chapter to Unveil Lithonia Mural at Upcoming Ribbon Cutting

The “Increase and Prosper” Lithonia mural at first kicked off with a bang on MLK Working day 2020. Hundreds of volunteers poured into the modest town to help clear the town and paint the mural. 

Aidra N. Martin, Chapter President of Tau Pi Omega and President of Council for Community Enrichment, is joyful to have performed a important position in the completion of this artistic landmark. “I am genuinely enthusiastic that the mural has been finished.  When Tau Pi Omega and the Council for Community Enrichment, Inc. agreed to fund this project, we did so out of our motivation to beautify our neighborhood as nicely as to assistance The Arts, one of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s present targets in its Global System.  Via this target, Alpha Kappa Alpha’s intent is to salute the Black Arts Motion by the celebration of African American art. This mural, created by a black feminine artist, and painted by our own neighborhood as a provider project through the MLK weekend, embodies Target IV of Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 2018 to 2022 Global System,” mentioned Martin. 

Painted by “Hey Brown Girl You might be Beautiful” artist Faatimah Stevens, the mural serves as a beacon of hope to citizens, neighbors, and readers of the town. “This was a joint effort and hard work we collaborated with neighborhood volunteers and supporters to provide the mural to life for Lithonia,” remarked Stevens.

Saritha Harden, Arts Chair for Tau Pi Omega, expressed her gratitude: “The completion of the mural signifies a visual dedication to The Arts inside the Lithonia Community for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Tau Pi Omega Chapter and its Basis, The Council for Community Enrichment, Inc.”

A File of Supporting Regional Arts

Tau Pi Omega and the Council for Community Enrichment (CCE) have performed pivotal roles in uplifting the arts in DeKalb County & Metro Atlanta. Numerous of their initiatives are as follows: 

one.       Teenager Poetry Levels of competition held at Decatur Library. Higher school and middle school students from throughout Metro Atlanta submitted unique compositions dependent on the concept “We Stand on Their Shoulders.” Monetary prizes were supplied to the very first and next put winners.

two.       Artist Showcase in which numerous artists were equipped to existing their talents to the general public. Artists presented the spoken term, drawings, musical talents, mime, liturgical dance and a host of other artistic expressions. This free celebration brought many out to take pleasure in the numerous talents of the neighborhood.

three.       Led attempts for the Harlem Renaissance touring museum to appear to Atlanta.  This was a collaboration with the fourteen other Metro Atlanta Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

four.       On Martin Luther King Jr’s Working day of Service 2020, Tau Pi Omega and CCE funded and volunteered in the painting of a mural at the Lithonia Arts Centre in the coronary heart of downtown Lithonia. Over a hundred and fifty volunteers arrived out to assistance this effort and hard work.
