Super Bowl 2022 halftime show review: it’s a family affair

There may have been some significant boys battling it out in the recreation, but it was a night time of hip-hop heavyweights — in addition, oddly, 50 Cent — at the Super Bowl LVI halftime demonstrate.

Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar rocked the stage at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California midway by the showdown concerning the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. And of class, they have been joined by the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul herself, Mary J. Blige.

The display opened with Dre and Dogg, representing the west coastline, and a socially distanced celebration scene below them on a map of Los Angeles.

The iconic rappers then turned the display up-side-down, basically, with an unpredicted overall performance from 50 Cent — who appeared hanging from the system under the rappers, reminiscent of his old school “In da Club” new music video clip.

Blige’s social gathering was future: da Bronx’s Blige sparkled in thigh-large mirrored boots with her strike “Family Affair.” Then, it was back again to so-Cal with poet Lamar, prior to Eminem’s acquainted “Lose Yourself” chorus played. Judging by the crowd’s applause, the Detroit rapper may well have been the headliner.

But Dre’s piano riff echoed louder in Sofi Stadium, as the rapper brought all the performers back again with each other with dancers dressed as inmates performing down below them.

It was a decidedly distinct vibe from past year’s halftime demonstrate, when The Weeknd was the sole performer on the major phase in the sport. And this testosterone-heavy affair was a significantly cry from the diva dance-off involving Jennifer Lopez and Shakira in 2020.

It was Blige who experienced the most to obtain from currently being in the Tremendous Bowl highlight: The 51-yr-previous singer introduced her new album, “Good Early morning Magnificent,” on Friday and could undoubtedly use the advertising enhance that will surely appear from her halftime general performance.

Blige famously labored with Dr. Dre on a single of her massive hits, “Family Affair,” and Dre has also collaborated with Eminem, Snoop and Lamar, so evidently the 56-calendar year-aged producer, rapper and mogul is the link among all of the halftime performers.

The halftime display marked a major night for black artists on the Tremendous Bowl phase, which include Grammy-nominated region singer Mickey Guyton, who performed the national anthem ahead of kickoff. The 38-12 months-aged Texas indigenous sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” backed by a choir to symbolize the range of America.
