COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Max von Sydow, the self-explained “shy boy”-turned-actor regarded to art home audiences by his work with Swedish director Ingmar Bergman and afterwards to moviegoers almost everywhere when he performed the priest in the horror classic “The Exorcist,” has died. He was ninety.

His agent Jean Diamond explained Monday the actor, who was born in Sweden but turned a French citizen in 2002, died the prior working day in France.

“It is with a damaged coronary heart and with infinite disappointment that we have the extraordinary ache of saying the departure of Max von Sydow,” Diamond explained.
