Black Pony Art Gallery Features Jayde Gibbons

Black Pony Gallery announced the first on the internet solo exhibition by Bermudian photographer Jayde Gibbons, with the online exhibition functioning from October 1 – 18, 2021.

“MNFR: ‘My Negus For Real’ offers a collection of black and white photos centered on Black males and youth in Bermuda from 2018-20. The much larger entire body of MNFR operate was just lately on exhibition at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Artwork,” a spokesperson reported.

“These pictures are candid and unposed and but there is a white t-shirt theme that asserts alone as a cultural signifier. The artist reported, “In the starting it was just my digital camera and myself capturing with no intent. I commenced thinking about how we look at and benefit each and every other as Bermudians, and the specific dialogue I’d like to have about the Black Bermudian male.”

“I’ve realized about things Black guys expertise that I, as a Black woman, may well never go through, and vice versa. In a way this venture has taught me to demonstrate compassion and regard for other folks, and not to choose a guide by its deal with. Every person has a tale.

“Visuals are so potent, and art has a way of connecting individuals and cultures. If individuals only see by themselves how modern society sees them, it is difficult to produce their very own route.”

Ms Gibbons included, “Ultimately, I would like for my project to have a scholarship for Black Bermudian males pursuing training, a career in the arts or a little something community primarily based. The intention is to raise cash by providing artwork in the type of coffee table books and fine artwork prints, items and donations from donors and buyers, so there is a ton to do and this is actually only the commencing.”
